Gerber E-30-000075 Tool Folding Shovel (Serrated Edge)
Short review
Based in Oregon, Gerber Gear is a manufacturer of knives and multi-tools of high quality. From fishing tools, fire starters to sharpeners or shovels, their multi-tools are not to be disappointed by.
An ideal best camp shovel is sturdy and serrated-edged folding spade and entrenching tool for that extra needed heavier duty power. A survivalist’s favorite, Gerber is built with powder-coated boron carbon steel material, anodized shaft and nylon, and a glass-filled handle that offers leverage and an excellent grip. This sleek tiger can last in the roughest environments. The balde’s shape allows for efficient digging and more. A well-designed power tool, any Gerber gear is practically indestructible. What you see is what you get and then some more unexpected action. In addition, the Gerber E-Tool 30-000075 folding shovel sports a locking mechanism for safety assurance once applied with pressure. Good thing about it, this durable spade will work well even with women and kids. Safe to say, it’s not just a “man’s tool.” The multi-purpose E-tool can be packed for picnics, used as a garden tool and even a self-defense weapon. It can also chop ice. The head is adjustable for up to 170 degrees, for picking, 180 degrees, and 20 degrees adjustment for grappling hook. However, we don’t recommend this as a primary tool for crops in farming.
After the Army tested this power spade, it lasted 790 swings before it needed a basic screw replacement, while other entrenchment tools fell a hundred swings behind and broke. The government has a contract with the company for this high quality folding shovel and 360 tool for many other tasks when backpacking, camping, trucking, etc.
Compact and well-designed, Gerber’s powder-coated boron carbon steel spade is a practical and powerful tool for the camper, military man, and the all-around survivalist. It’s built for good hand positioning, with a hand bolt for locking and loading. One can also sharpen the serrated edges when worn. We suggest to oil the moving parts with some light machine oil for maintenance.
Heavy duty with great balance and weight, this serrated-edged E-tool is might. The only poor comment by users is that it’s slightly heavier than other entrenching tools as it weighs two pounds. Overall, the folding shovel capability and durability is a bang for every last buck. Reasonably priced and great performance. Go far with the Gerber E-tool.

Pagreberya Multi-tool Military Folding Spade (w/ Knife, Fire Starter, Auto Emergency Kit, Axe)
Short review
An all-around multi-tool, the high quality Pagreberya folding spade comes in three parts: a tooth knife with various functions, an interconnected top cover which include a compass, magnesium rod + whistle, G2 pipe, and finally, the head or spade (adjustable) with a G1 pipe and cover. When put together, the Pagreberya military folding shovel is 21-inches long and 5.8-inches wide. It’s a robust build of high quality carbon steel and aluminum alloy.
As a durable power tool, it doesn’t take up a lot of space and it is sold with a carrying case of camouflage design and Velcro for easy open and close. It carries many functions from a hammer, axe, to a bottle opener at the knife base. For emergencies, the metal whistle functions handily. There’s also a glass breaker/attack cone, ruler, and a knife that acts as multi-function saw. The hollow tube aids in the lightweightedness of this folding spade, and it can even folds ninety degrees and be used as a pick. All the pieces are detachable for easy assembly and use. For all Pagreberya’s feature tools, it’s an incredibly light and durable E-tool. From hiking, snow shoveling gardening, to military use it’s an ideal easy-to-assemble tool. In fact, the haft is longer than most shovels.
It’s not the cheapest best camp shovel available, and some buyers have remarked that the threads for handle attachment is bad plastic. Worse, even the compass fails to work for some owned units. But a versatile tool that functions as a whistle, knife, axe, hammer, fire starter and much more in one convenient and lightweight but durable carbon steel build? Good thinking and great action. Pagrenerya weighs just under three pounds. Have a look for yourself.
Things We Liked
- Durable carbon steel and aluminum alloy
- Multiple functions
- Easy to assemble, use and fold
- Longer haft compared to others
- Protective cover and carrying bag
- Lightweight
Things We Didn't Like
- Plastic threads handle attachments
- Bag doesn’t close well and Velcro lining doesn’t align well; pouch just has one loop
- Compasses won’t work for all
Bully Tools model 92515 12-Gauge Steel Round Pointed Shovel (w/ Fiberglass Long Handle)
Short review
Since its foundation in 1994, Bully Tools has manufactured some of the finest quality construction and roofing tools for the contractor, carpenter, gardener or do-it-yourselfer. Heat-treated, powder-coated, plasma-cut and robotic-welded designs only guarantees durability for roof, lawn, garden and general housing and building. Bully Tools is made in USA.
Bully Tools’ 12-gauge steel round pointed shovel model 92515 comes with a long handle that’s made of fiberglass. It works best as a digging tool with its 12-gauge extra thick steel blade. At 59.2 x 9 x 4.1 inches and 5.35 pounds in weight, the handle fiberglass is long, durable and absorb shocks. Moreover, the grip is comfortable with a well-designed and balanced handle for good control mud to soil. This product ideal for deep trenches, plants and flowers with deeper roots. This tool is built with high quality steel, and sports a round and pointed design which makes for ideal those deeper surfaces. We love that the welded I-Beam frame prevents the shovel from bending. However, don’t use this shovel for clay or rockier surfaces.
Overall, we like this fiberglass handle 12-gauge model shovel by Bully Tools. There have been some complaints about the foot rest being too small, or that the shovel may be too narrow and some materials, when raised, may fall. It’s an affordable and long-term quality shovel. While it may not be the most easy to pack around, it works best for DIY mud and dirt work when you’re not travelling. Limited lifetime warranty.
Things We Liked
- Strong and durable
- Comfortable and well-balanced grip
- Handle can absorb shocks
- Balanced handle-blade
- Long handle prevents back pain
- Ideal for trenches and deep roots
Things We Didn't Like
- Not strong enough for clay or rockier ground
- Shovel may be too narrow that the dirt, stones or soil can fall off while raised
- Small foot rest
ADVANTAGES

A handy and durable folding shovel is best for gardening, camping and mainly survival in the wild outdoors. An entrenching shovel that folds for practicality and convenience is an even better option. Don’t go into the woods without this tool and later regret it.
Whether it’s digging trenches, holes for fire puts, lifting soil and rock, or shoveling snow and mud, you’re gonna need some good lever. Below are characteristics in a best champ shovel, that even come with added tools like a compass, fire starter or extra knife. You need to be well-equipped. Considering size and type of usage carefully will go a long way.
Blade material
By far the most important, blade material is top priority. Always pick steel or metal. The high carbon steel, aluminum is especially durable. High carbon steel is the strongest, but it does corrode in time.
Stainless steel won’t rust, and aluminum (also rust-free), makes it lightweight, but less durable than the two. Better use aluminum for softer carry like soil, while high carbon and stainless steel for heavier duty materials such as rocks. Military men and survivalists will need E-tools or entrenching tools for the rougher and tougher usage. Also, don’t buy any material that could warp too easily. Be strict with this. We don’t recommended a folding shovel made of plastic, and best to buy products not made in China.
Blade shape
What are you typically digging? If you’re not a heavy camper or survivalist, a flat blade would be ideal. But if you’re planning on digging deep trenches, get one with upturned sides. Elements like sand or snow will require deep scoops for easy containment, while heavy or wet materials like gravel or cement will need blades with a smaller scoop.
Handle material
Not only easy, but also known to be very flexible on its operational process. In fact, it can be operated in a lot of ways. The most common form is the semi and fully automatic type of operation. This feature will allow you to adjust conveniently according to what you need and what the project demands. So, if you are a first-timer, this process is definitely for you. You will be able to achieve the look you need on your own pace and learning capacity.
Size and Weight
Do you want a small, portable one that can easily be packed and folded in a belt, backpack or even pocket? If you travel often, you’re going to need to consider this one critically. A good weight is three to four pounds. However, if you’re using it for your garden or minor work in the house, you can do with a longer type. It should be the right feel and easy to use. Remember, you’ll be using it often.
Function
If you’re the outdoor man who is a true survivalist, you’re gonna need more than a metal or steel folding spade. A great shovel choice would be something more versatile like one that can act as an axe, hoe, etc. and even comes with a bottle opener, compass or fire starter. If you’re just working on more lightweight materials, go with a steel one. Thoroughly read through all the functions.
Carry Bag
This is a nice, necessary protector and is needed when you pack the shovel in the camper bag. If no case, make do with a holster or case that fits nicely and won’t touch other tools in the bag.
Fittings
Hinge bolts, collars to secure locks. Be sure they’re tough quality, not plastic.
Finally, if you’re not on a light budget and can go with more costly brand that specializes in survival tools, best to go this route. It’ll be far more durable and versatile for utility in and around the field, mountains, woods. Invest wisely and go through all the specifications carefully before choosing a lifetime brand. Get a best camp shovel or folding space that works around your most common activity you need it for. Multi-functional or classic, you’re gonna know.
CONCLUSION

A durable folding spade is like an extra limb, but the more robust limb, the helper for the true camper or survivalist. We picked a brand that’s heavy duty, versatile, and most of all, one with a guaranteed great quality build.
No question Pagreberya and FiveJoy came extremely close with their additional tools from fire starters, glass cutters to axes, but the Gerber E-tool is non-compare with its serrated edge and mighty powder-coated boron carbon steel, anodized shaft and nylon, and a glass-filled handle. After being military tested, it soared past its competitors. The head can be adjust up to 180 degrees for a variety of uses and manageable with a great grip and hand bolt for tight lock security.
A handsome structure and design, it is the most tactical pick for the all-around survivalist. The best part is the serrated edges for full action. We think the design is simply flawless. Versatile, durable, well-balanced and secure, it’s a multi-purpose E-tool to the highest standards. The only con to it is its slightly heavier weight. But who can complain if you’re used to or look forward to power tools such as this one? Get a Gerber and get locked and loaded with one mighty folding shovel.
